Walkers news: August 17 -- Chicago 5, St. Louis 2
Record: 64-52, 1st, 4.5 GA Des Moines
St. Louis jumped out to a 2-0 lead, but Chicago scored the next five runs as the G-Men down the River Walkers at Wrigley Field (1938).
The River Walkers scored a pair of runs in the top of the second inning off Chicago starting pitcher Juan Gomez.
Alex Nunez singled with one out and moved to third on a Jordan Quinto double.
After an intentional walk to Abdul-Nasser bin Amr, pitcher Ming Xiang got down a bunt to score Nunez.
Quinto then scored on a deep fly ball hit by Bob Saavedra.
The G-Men got one of those runs back against Xiang in the bottom of the second.
Matt Walczak singled with one out and scored on a Ken Turner two-out single.
Turner would 3 for 4 in the contest and drive in three of the G-Men's runs.
Chicago seized the lead in the bottom of the fifth.
Willie Rubio tied it when he led off with a homer off Xiang.
Gomez, the pitcher, then drew a walk.
A Danny Gutierrez single plated Gomez on third.
Jordan Lawlar made it 3-2 Chicago with a deep fly to right center.
The G-Men added two insurance runs in the eighth against the Walkers' bullpen.
With Brett McVey on the mound, things got going when Luis Tejada reached with one out on an error by bin Amr at Shortstop.
A wild pitch while Matt Walczak was in the process of striking out moved Tejada to second.
Alfredo Cano was then given an intentional walk.
Turner made St. Louis pay with a two-run single.
Gomez (8-10) pitched six innings, allowing two runs on five hits. He struck out two and walked three.
Erik Perry and Jimmy DaPro both pitched scoreless innings to get the game to the ninth.
Nick Black, Dennis Turner and Devin Eyre all got one out -- Black and Turner both left the game with injuries -- to seal the win.
Eyre earned his fifth save.
