Walkers news: August 22 -- Reliever Tapia claimed off waivers; Cox sent to AAA
The St. Louis River Walkers have claimed left-handed relief pitcher Jose Tapia off of waivers from the Milwaukee Crushers and sent 25-year-old lefty Ron Cox to AAA Memphis.
Tapia, 33, last pitched in the majors for the Crushers in an 8-7 win over Rockford on August 10.
He pitched in five games this season for Milwaukee, going 1-0 with a 3.00 ERA. He has pitched six innings and struck out four while posting a 1.50 WHIP.
In his major league career, which includes stops in Akron, Grand Rapids, Peoria along with Milwaukee, Tapia has pitched in 167 (all in relief) and posted a record of 10-4 with three saves and a 4.38 ERA.
It's been a rough season for Cox, who first joined the Walkers in 2035 and and not returned to the minors since.
In 45 games this season, Cox has gone 4-1 with one save but a 5.03 ERA. He has pitched a total of 53.2 innings, striking out 68, but posting a 1.45 WHIP and allowing 13 home runs.
