April 12-14, 2044: vs Cleveland (3)

Game 1: The Rays wielded the hot bats again as they gouged the Guardians 12-2. Doug Johns was the man of the match as he had a 2-run double in a 3-run first and then added a grand slam (#3) in a 7-run 4th. Dan Gregory had another 4-hit game, driving in a run, Tony Cordova had a 2-run double and Josh Beckett drove in 2 more to give him a league-leading 13 RBI through 7 games. Gordie Ager had an easy time, going 6 5 0 0 1 7 and getting his first win of 2044.

Game 2: Brad Jackson's struggles continued and the bats were largely held in check for a change as Cleveland edged the Rays 4-3. The veteran lefty got his strikeouts but gave up a couple of homers in a 6 8 4 4 1 8 outing and dropped to 0-2. The Rays' runs came via the homer with Josh Alexander's 2-run shot (#3) and a solo Josh Beckett homer (#2).

Game 3: The Rays struggled again today with Cleveland and are now off to a 3-4 start at their usual fortress Publix Park after a 6-4 loss. Greg Bookhart cruised through the first 3 before falling apart in the 4th and finished 5 8 5 5 3 5 to fall to 0-1, and the offense could only get going in fits and starts. They trailed 6-2 going to the bottom of the 9th, pushed 2 runs across and had the bases loaded, but couldn't get it done. Josh Alexander was 3-5 with an RBI.

Team record: 5-4. Next up: The homestand continues as the White Sox visit for the weekend.
