Alex Rios took over to strike out Bradley Mondesir to end the eighth.
Closer Craig Fritzler allowed a walk and double to Tommy Gardner in the ninth, but still converted his 19th save.

He later scored on a one-out single by Nick Shaw as St. Louis went up 1-0.
That lead grew to 2-0 in the fifth when Rece Hinds led off with a double off Haas and scored on a Wibbenmeyer fly ball.
