Top prospects and systems for the offseason
The CBO has announced its annual top prospects list, with a few up-and-coming players appearing close to making their splash in the CBO. The CBO also used a ranking system to name the top systems, with Roxbury appearing at the top as they have in recent years. The Rad Sox organization has 5 of the top 10 prospects, including the #1 overall prospect.
The top 5 prospects are as follows:
1. 3B Donn Mattingley, Roxbury - Mattingley is still trying to find his stroke on offense, but he is already considered to be a gem as a defender on the hot corner. For the second straight season, he has earned a defensive award. Once he finds his bat, he is expected to be one of the top HR hitters in the CBO.
2. SP Whip Lashley, County Crossing - That Lashley is on this list is misleading since he will probably be off it next season after his impressive rookie campaign in the CBO. Lashley was 15-7 with a 4.16 ERA. What is craziest is that he is still developing and could surpass even Beachboy Nut of Nordhagen Beach as the CBO's top pitcher.
3. RF Orcin Cardinal, Finch Farm - Cardinal has already taken the GBRL by storm, pounding out a .293/27/72 line in his first year with Poseidon Energy. While he's never expected to be a great fielder and may eventually move to 1B, he is a great hitter who may see .300+/30+/90+ seasons in the CBO.
4. SP Wilson Beachball, University Point - Like Lashley, Beachball will be off this list soon. Likely to be the CBO's top rookie, going 20-6 with a 3.21 ERA, Beachball has shown a lot of improvement in the last year. Like Lashley, he has not yet reached his full potential.
5. CF Stu Gains, The Slog - Gains has made huge gains (hah!) since being drafted in the 4th round by University Point. Traded to The Slog in July, Gains jumped between the Ghouls' GBRL and BMU teams, but had a solid jump in his performance. Expected to develop all the tools, Gains may find himself as a cleanup-hitting CF in the CBO.
