October 26, 2044: World Series Game 2

I'm really not sure what the AI sees in Chris Toombs. He's not a terrible pitcher, but he doesn't seem to be closer material even if he did save 38 games for the Reds this year, and his habit of coming up small is one of the reasons I had no trouble trading him in the deal to Cincinnati which brought us tonight's starter and playoff hero Jim Brophy. And having already blown 2 saves in this postseason Toombs made it a 3rd when he gave up a 3-run homer to Tomas Laboy which turned a 4-3 Reds lead into what finished a 6-5 Rays win to put Tampa Bay up 2-0 and two games away from their 4th straight World Series title, a feat not accomplished since the 1949-53 Yankees won 5 in a row. It was a real back-and-forth affair tonight with Jim Brophy pitching well but not as dominant as he was in his 3 previous starts this postseason and after Jose Mendoza coughed up a couple of runs in the 6th the Rays found themselves behind. But Luis Barela and Doug Johns led off the 8th with singles off Toombs, and one batter later Laboy changed the game. Satoshi Sato gave up his first hit (and first run) of this postseason making things a bit too interesting in the 9th but recovered to get the final out. Now we head to Cincinnati, where Brad Jackson will try to give us a 3-0 lead.
