OOTP: A Player Dynasty

This is not your typical dynasty report. Most dynasties revolve around a specific team. Here, we will watch the baseball journeys of four high school freshman in the United States High School Series Circuit. The USA HSS is comprised of two high school leagues, one league concentrates itself in the eastern portion of the United States, while the other league concentrates itself in the western portion of the United States. Both leagues are comprised of six divisions of six teams each. There are a total of 72 high schools around the USA that act as a feeder league to MLB, the (fictional) NCAA, and the (fictional) NCAA Junior College circuit.

Our first look at these players will be from May 1st, 2022. There is one game left in the high school regular season. In each high school league, 16 of the 36 teams will make the playoffs: the top two teams in each division, plus two wildcards. Each round of the playoffs is a best-of-five series. The division winners will occupy the top three seeds.

Our first player we will look at is right-handed RF Danny Edwards. He is a freshman at the Jacksonville HS Prairie Thunder. His plus-plus contact should allow him to maintain a high batting average. Not only can he draw a lot of walks, but he also has a little bit of pop in his game. He also projects to be able to play at multiple positions, being used all around the outfield and even at shortstop this season. His 16-23 Prairie Thunder are currently out of the playoffs, but his .423/.556/.750/1.306 slash (151 OPS+) shows that he can be a force to be reckoned with in his later high school years.

The next player we will see is lefty starting pitcher Jordan Maciel from Celina, OH. He currently plays for the Manhattan HS South Raccoons. A team that gives him a lot of run support, his weak pitches are masked by his team's great offense and his excellent stamina and hold runners. In 10 games (9 starts), he has amassed 3.50 ERA, 1.31 WHIP, and 48 K in 43.2 IP. His Raccoons are another team that is out of the playoff race, so he’ll look to continue his good performances heading into the 2023 season.

The third player in our dynasty report is another left-handed pitcher by the name of Jose Patino. The Louisianan native employs his trade at the Oklahoma City HS Stampede in the USA HSSE. With decent stamina and the ability to hold runners, we can only hope that that will thrust him into the big leagues one day. With no outstanding pitches of note, we may be seeing him in Indy ball or around the globe somewhere.

The final player we will look at is outfielder Moses Brown of Minneapolis, Minnesota. A player who projects to be a good defensive outfielder with a bit of speed, he would really need the bat to play out to have any significant career in the bigs. His South Los Angeles HS Sprit are one of the two teams that we will follow in the 2022 High School playoff season (Jose Patino’s OKC HS Stampede being the other).

About this world:
This save game as all leagues loaded with the exception of the World Baseball Classic. I created my own WBC that has 4 groups of 8 and is played bi-annually on even years. The group stage has 28 games (play each team in the group 4 times) over a period of 36 days. The top three in each group make the knockout stage with the group winners receiving a bye into the quarterfinals. Each round is a best of five series.

There is also the USA feeder league system that feeds into MLB. There is one collegiate league with 40 teams, the NCAA. This league is separated into 2 subleagues with 4 divisions of five each. There are no wildcards here, just the top two in each division make the playoffs. There is a junior college league (NCAA JC) with two divisions of 6. Only the division winners here make the postseason and again it is a best of five series. Then we have our two high school leagues, with 36 teams each, and our four players will we be following throughout the course of this series.
I have never written a dynasty before so this is a journey that both you and I can go on together. I hope you guys enjoy it as much as I enjoy writing it!
