2022 USA HSS Division Series

Our two high school players won both of their first-round matchups! They are onto the Division Series now. Jose Patino and his Oklahoma City HS Stampede will face off against the Houston HS Calvary. The Calvary are division rivals of the Stampede, both a part of the Mountain West Conference’s Central Division. The Calvary won the division and finished with a record of 29-11. Their defense was stellar this season, leading USA HSSE in ERA (6.12) and finishing third in defensive efficiency. Their offense was potent as well, leading the league in home runs (107) and finishing 6th in batting average
.
Moses Brown’s South Los Angeles HS Spirit will face off against the Eugene HS Black Sox. The Black Sox won their Western Conference Pacific Division, with a record of 24-16. Pitching was the name of the game for the Black Sox, finishing in the top third in ERA, Ks, and defensive efficiency. Their hitting was not great at all, finishing in the bottom third in runs, home runs, and batting average

Patino strong in Game 1, but not strong enough. The Houston HS Calvary took Game 1 of the Division Series against the Oklahoma City HS Stampede by the score of 6-0. Patino was strong in this outing, giving up two runs on five hits in five innings pitched, while striking out 5. It was OKC’s Isaiah Selden who gave up the other four runs while recording just two outs to give Houston the victory. Patino will line up for Game 5 if necessary.

Moses Brown had a very productive day for the South Los Angeles HS Spirit today. He went 2-4 with 2 walks, 2 runs scored, and an RBI in South Los Angeles's 12-4 victory in Game 1. Brown, batting from the two spot, maintains a .487 batting average going into Game 2

OKC walk it off in the 9th! Oklahoma City HS Stampede was up 4-2 going into the ninth. That all changed when Houston HS Calvary hit a 2 run shot and score an additional run to go up 5-4. However, freshman Josh Brown sent the crowd home happy by hitting a 1-out, 2-run homerun to win the game and give Oklahoma City a 2-1 series lead.

Moses Brown quiet in Game 3, South Los Angeles defeated. Moses Brown was not his usual self today, struggling to get into a rhythm for Game 3. The outfielder went 1-2 with a strikeout, and was pinched hit for in the 6th inning.

Game 4 a game for the ages as Houston prevail, force Game 5. In a game that was a tail of two halves, the Houston HS Calvary jumped to a 9-5 lead after five and a half innings today. During the second half of the game Oklahoma City were able to claw their back into the game, making it 10-9 after seven innings. Each team scored a run in the eighth to make it an 11-10 OKC game going into the ninth. Houston was able to score two runs in the top of the ninth to take the lead 12-11 and Oklahoma City failed to score in the bottom of the ninth. This game had 92 plate appearances, with 27 hits and 23 runs scored. Jose Patino is set to start Game 5.

So close, yet so far away. The South Los Angeles HS Spirit scored in the top of the first today, and that would prove to be their only run in an extremely tight affair. They held that lead all the way to the bottom of the ninth until SLA pitcher Dan Narvaez walked three and gave up two earned runs to lose the game for the Spirit. Brown was his usual self, minus the run production. He went 2-3 with an additional walk in the loss.
Both of our players are now forced to play a Game 5 decider!
