A few additional things I thought of:
1. Ability to edit Global league rankings and average salaries, so NHL is not necessarily always best league, and best players will tend to sign elsewhere.
2. For historical games, as well as a league maximum contracts setting, also have a minimum contracts setting which forces AI controlled teams to actually sign free agents and stock their farm teams. It's annoying when they only sign a new player when they need to , due to inury etc, and their farm teams only have a handful of players, while there are dozens of available free agents. Also they are weak in a particular position, but make no attempt to sign better
available players in that position.
3. Free agent centre - would like to see this screen revamped so free agents can be sorted/ranked similar to the draft screen. e.g. by your scouts suggestions, or consensus scouting, and by ability-only, potential-only, or a combo of both. Or by a particular strength - e.g. best defensive forward.
4. In historical games, the ability to edit and rename the minor league structures and move minor league teams to their correct leagues. e.g. If you start in 1917 and have any kind of expansion, the structure breaks and you end up with AHL teams in the 1970's still playing in the'Montreal Hockey League' or 'Lower Ottawa Valley Hockey Association'.
Also for minor league to have actual results/standings and player statistics based on their relative team strengths, even if it is only simulated in the background.
5. Pre-1917 historical. e.g NHA and PCHA from 1909 should be relatively easy to add if you ignore the Stanley Cup challenge element.
