MBL news: Oct. 2 -- Springfield clinches first playoff berth by winning NL South title
Springfield's 8-2 win over the Chicago G-men wrapped up the National League South Division title for the Railers.
It also clinched the first trip to the playoffs in the 21 years of the franchise.
The victory put Springfield's record at 96-64, some four games better than second-place Cedar Rapids with two games left in the regular season
The Railers also will own home-field advantage in the NL championship series.
Milwaukee (90-70) leads the NL North by two games over Rockford with two left in the season.
Springfield has led the NL South since April, when it broke from the gate with a 17-7 record.
