Walkers news: Dec. 16 -- St. Louis sends Bin Amr and prospects to Cincinnati for two minor-leaguers
The St. Louis River Walkers have sent former starting shortstop Abdu-Nasser bin Amr and a pair of minor-league pitchers -- RHP Josh Mitchell and RHP Cortez Arroyo -- to the Cincinnati River Sharks in exchange for highly rated prospect shortstop R.J. Gomez and RHP Alex Rodriguez.
Bin Amr, 28, was the Walkers primary shortstop during the 2036 and 2037 season, but then lost the job when his bat went south in 2038.
In 2038, bin Amr batted .211 in 75 games (74 starts) with two homers and 18 RBIs.
During his time with St. Louis, bin Amr got into 339 games during which he hit .258 with 14 homers and 127 RBIs.
Gomez is seen as a feature major-league shortstop.
The 24-year-old played in 89 games at Class A in 2038, during which he hit .253 with five homers and 37 RBIs
A seventh-round pick in the 2037 draft, Mitchell pitched in 20 games between rookie ball, Class A and low A in his first professional season.
He went a combined 3-1 with nine saves in 22 games.
A 17th-round pick in the 2035 draft, Arroyo split the 2038 season between high-A Palm Beach and AA Springfield.
He went 7-11 with a 3.53 ERA in 24 games (22 starts) at high-A.
At Springfield, he made five appearances in relief with no decisions and a 5.91 ERA.
Rodriguez, 23, was taken in the 22nd round of the 2033 draft by Indianapolis.
Last season, he got into 41 games in Class A for the River Sharks.
He went 1-2 with three saves and a 4.04 ERA.
