August 8: Placed OF/P Josh Schwartzlow on the 10-day IL with back tightness, recalled 1B Alex Maas from AAA Durham. Sent OF Dan Gregory to AAA Durham for a rehab assignment.

Maas is a marginal prospect but was on the 40-man so he'll get a brief call-up until Gregory's played a few games at Durham.

Game 1: The Rays put 5 on the board in the first and coasted to an 8-3 win over the Red Sox at Publix Park. Tomas Laboy's grand slam (#14) capped a first inning which saw the first five batters reach, Doug Johns drove in a pair, and Seth Williams was 3-5 with an RBI. Gordie Ager improved to 14-5 with a 5.1 7 3 3 0 5 outing.

Game 2: Luis Barela smacked a pair of homers to reach 30 while Marc Gibson and Caleb Ramos combined on a 6-hit shutout as the Rays once again blasted Boston 9-0. Barela had solo shots in the 2nd and 3rd and he went back-to-back on the last one with Jose Castillo, who had a 3-run jack for his 27th. Tomas Laboy was also 3-4 with a double and 3 RBI. Gibson meanwhile went to 3-2 as a Ray with a 6 3 0 0 3 4 performance and Ramos picked up his second 3-inning save in less than a week.

Team record: 80-35. Next up: Cleveland comes to town for 4 games.
