September 1-3, 2045: at Chicago White Sox (3)

September 1: Placed P Sean Forbes on the 10-day IL with back tightness, recalled 1B Alex Maas and P Triston Goulet from AAA Durham.

Was going to call up Goulet anyway in September expansion but Forbes went on the IL. Saving the pitching spot for Forbes coming back, plus Satoshi Sato has gone on rehab and it will be great to get him back.

Game 1: It was bombs away for the Rays as they routed the fading White Sox 11-1. Once in the thick of the wild card race, Chicago has fallen on hard times of late and the Rays made sure they'd stay that way. Jose Castillo was the man, hitting a pair of 3-run homers to give him 32 while Seth Williams drove in 3 with a double and a 2-run homer (#20). Dan Robinson (13-6) took over the AL ERA lead at 3.46 after a fine 6 4 1 1 0 4 outing and after his teammates scored 6 in 5 innings off previous leader Omar Guerrero. Tristan Goulet made his Rays debut and went the final 3 hitless for the save, walking 4 and fanning 4.

Game 2: Tampa Bay hit 5 more homers in another rout of the Pale Hose by 9-3. Jose Mendez is right there for the batting title and he blasted a pair and drove in 3 to give him 26 HR and 89 RBI as he's now a dark horse MVP candidate. Mario Saro also deposited a pair in the seats to give him 18 and Jose Castillo homered again (#33). Jim Brophy wasn't his sharpest, but improved to 14-4 after a 5.2 4 2 2 5 4 outing.

Game 3: Chicago salvaged a game of the series as they hit Greg Bookhart hard in a 7-2 White Sox win. The lefty didn't have it today as he went 3 6 6 6 2 5 with a pair of homers allowed to fall to 14-6. Luis Barela was 2-3 with a solo homer (#36).

Team record: 96-42, they've officially clinched a playoff spot and the division magic number is 6. Next up: Finally back home to Publix Park for 3 vs Minnesota.
