September 11-13, 2045: vs NY Yankees (3)
Game 1: Monday's opener was rained out so we made it up with a doubleheader on Tuesday and the Rays routed the Yankees 9-4 in the matinee. Luis Barela had a 3-run HR (#37), Jose Castillo drove in 3 including a 2-run double, and Dave Frick was 3-4 with a solo homer (#9). Dan Robinson (14-6) pitched well for the win at 6.1 6 3 3 1 6.
Game 2: The Rays poured on the offense again in the nightcap, taking a 13-6 win over the Yankees to sweep the doubleheader. Luis Barela capped a huge day at the plate by going 4-5 with HR #38 and 3 RBI, Jose Mendez drove in 3 with a pair of homers giving him 28, Chad Fox added a 2-run shot (#9) and Nelson Bocardo hit his 5th homer of the year. Marc Gibson (6-3) was solid in getting the win at 7 4 3 3 0 5.
Game 3: The Yankees salvaged a game from the series by beating the Rays 7-1 in the finale. The Rays had numerous chances to make this a game but left 13 men on base with Jose Castillo the biggest culprit going 0-5 with 8 LOB. Jim Brophy (14-5) took the loss after going 5.1 6 3 3 1 5 and the bullpen let it get away, especially Mike Robichaux.
Team record: 103-44. Next up: An off-day then Boston rolls into town for 3 over the weekend.
