Analyzing the Top 5 NOT on CBO Opening Day Rosters
1. 2B Diamond Ball, Clifton Vertibirds (GBRL, Warwick) - Drafted #1 overall in the 2301 Rookied Draft, Ball is expected to thrill the Mirelurks about what their future can look like. Expected to be a hitting force in the GBRL in 2302, Ball could find himself in the CBO on Opening Day 2303.
2. SS Cope Kearns, Lynn Fortune Finders (GBRL, Oberland) - The 2nd-overall pick in 2301, like Ball, Kearns is expected to be a beast on the field. While he is still working on making better contact, if he finds his stroke, he can hit for average and power, both of which the current T-51s squad could use. While they should not bring him up in 2302, the sky's the limit by 2303.
5. CF Stu Gains, Mass Pike Radroaches (GBRL, The Slog) - A 4th-round pick in the 2300 Rookie Draft, Gains has made huge gains in his talent. The Slog traded for him last July when the University Point Deathclaws were trying to secure their playoff squad. The Ghouls plan to start Gains at their GBRL facility, but we would not be surprised for him to spend most of his time with Everett of the BMU and maybe even be on the CBO squad at some point this season.
6. 3B Ross Merchantman, Sanctuary Hills Zetans (GBRL, Lexington) - The 5th-overall pick of the 2300 Rookie Draft, Merchantman did not have the best rookie season with the Zetans last season, batting only .157 in 76 games. However, he has a lot of talent and his power game can make opposing pitchers duck and cover.
7. SP Odd Thomas Koontz, Greentop Nursery Night People (BMU, Nordhagen Beach) - Drafted in the 2299 Rookie Draft in the 2nd round (36th overall), Koontz has used the last two seasons to work on an array of pitches. He split time with both of the Party Boys' minor league teams in 2301, but he did show marked improvement from 2300. If his 5-pitch load shows even more improvement, the Boys may need to find a spot for him in 2302 either as a starter or closer-in-training.
