Opening Day April 8, 1969
The Expos opened their inaugural season at Shea Stadium against the New York Mets. 28,551 fans showed up for this 2:05 game on a 51 degree cloudy day.
My opening day lineup:
LF Manny Mota
3B Tommie Reynolds
RF Ron Fairly
1B Boog Powell
C Hawk Taylor
CF Tommy McCraw
2B Jerry Adair
SS Steve Hertz
P Norm Angelini
Pitching for the Mets was Tom Seaver. He pitched all nine innings. In the first inning, the Expos had 4 hits and 4 runs. Taylor hit a 3-run homer. The first inning was really exciting to see, but alas, the Expos only were able to add 1 more run in the 3rd on 2 more hits off Seaver.
The Mets were able to have a 6-run 7th inning and knocked Angelini out of the game.
The Expos are currently 0-1 and now expected only to win 50 games this season. But, they do have a top 100 prospect at #100. I signed him as a minor league free agent after a Royals affiliate released him. My minor league is currently dead last.
