What I'm going to say here might not have any basis at all, but it's the way things seem to operate when I play the game..... When I start a game the players in the starting lineups all seem to have their image files loaded from already being shown on the screen where you set lineups prior to starting the game. When the computer brings in a substitute player, there is always a small little delay where I temporarily see that spinning blue "loading" circle for a second or so. This only happens when the computer brings in a substitute player, so my assumption is that this small loading time happens because it's searching for and accessing the photo file (again, I might be wrong). If the crash is going to occur, THIS is always where it occurs. Once that substitute player is in the game, then everything is fine with that player for the remainder of the game. It's just when the guy first comes into the game that you get that blue spinning circle for 1 second and then the potential crash.
Whenever I bring in a sub player, I do so from the lineup screen so I am able to bring in relief pitchers and pinch hitters without problem. But when the computer does this in the middle of the inning and in the middle of the gameplay screen - this is where it potentially crashes. Based on the way this scenario always plays out, it really truly seems like when it tries to access the image file of a new player mid-game it seems like there is a little hiccup for one reason or another..... Could it be that it is trying to access the image file AND create a facegen at the same time?
so if you aren't using image files you may not be able to duplicate it.
One additional piece of info now that I think about it..... it seems like the player coming into the game when the problem happens is normally a crappy player. Meaning he might be recently called up from the minor leagues or something and that would mean I may have only added in his image file recently. Whenever I do add in an image file, I always delete the facegen for that player out of my saved gamefolder and then reboot OOTP since that is what I was instructed to do years ago and it always worked fine without problems. But could there be a scenario where if I added a players image file and deleted his facegen file just before playing that given game that maybe the old facegen is sitting in some cache or something and conflicting with the image file? I could be wayyyy off with what I just said, but it does always seem to be obscure players coming in as relief pitchers that have triggered the crash for me. Maybe coincidence? But trying to provide as much info here as possible.

Yes, the short delay comes from the game searching for a person/profile picture and create a Facegen one, in case it doen't find one.
The search and the creation are done one after another, but there might be some new bug that leads to the crash.
So far I've tried to reproduce the issue without photos from the photos folder. If there is the bug when loading those, that would explain why I could not replicate it yet. I will try with them as you described in the other post.
The more information you can provide us, the better, thanks. Without knowing how to reproduce the bug it's very hard to find and fix it
