The Sky is Falling

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of one of our largest corporate partners was talking frantically on the speakerphone. He sounded quite agitated over a story on the front page of the Vancouver Province newspaper. A story written by sports reporter Tony Gallagher. Apparently Gallagher had gone to great lengths to point out that our record over the past three weeks was only .500, and in his opinion, it was a clear sign the sky was falling.

This all came as news to us, as our usual policy was to try and ignore the negative speculations of the local media. As fate would have it, Brian Burke happened to be in the office that day, and he overheard the entire conversation. Since day one, we'd always encouraged our people to speak their minds, so Burkie flashed a baffled expression and then declared newspapers were only good for puppies and parakeets.
