Jose Ramon hit his first home run of the season leading off the bottom of the eighth inning, snapping a 3-3 tie and propelling St. Louis to a 5-3 win over Detroit at Busch Stadium (2006).
Ramon's homer came on 2-1 pitch from Diesels reliever Tony Orozco and it soared 373 feet over the left-field wall.
The River Walkers added another run later in the inning, Nick Shaw with an RBI double off Orozco to score Manuel Coke.
Coke had drawn a one-out walk and moved to second on a wild pitch.
Freddy Woolsey and Laurenco Curvelo connected for back-to-back homers off St. Louis starting pitcher Juan Farias in the top of the first to put Detroit up 2-0.
Alex Boychuk delivered a two-run homer off Diesels starter Tony Zaragoza in the second to tie it.
An RBI double from Roc Riggio in the top of the fourth off Farias put Detroit back in front.
Tony Urbalejo hit his first homer since joining St. Louis off Ryan Ballou in the bottom of the seventh, tying it 3-3.
Farias went six innings, allowing three runs on seven hits. He struck out six and walked one.
Leo Hermosillo retired one batter in the seventh before leaving with a back injury.
Kyle Smarr came on to finish off the seventh and record the first two outs of the eighth.
Brett McVey (1-1) went the rest of the way and earned the win.
