Walkers news: May 23 -- Farias to injured list; Rios called up and Wigfall update
The St. Louis River Walkers have placed rookie right-handed pitcher Juan Farias on the 14-day injured list after he suffered an elbow injury while pitching in a 14-0 loss to Chicago on May 22.
Farias, 26, had gone 2-1 in seven starts for the Walkers posting a 4.69 ERA. He pitched a total of 40.1 innings, during which he struck out 40 and posted a 1.21 WHIP.
Getting the callup from AAA is 33-year-old right-handed pitcher Alex Rios.
Rios had been serving as a starting pitcher for the Redbirds having one 6-2 with a 1.49 ERA in nine starts.
He had pitched a total of 66.1 innings, during which he had posted a 0.98 WHIP and struck out 63.
Also, the Walkers announced that right-hander Xavier Wigfall has suffered setback as he tries to return from an elbow injury.
Wigfall, 30, last pitched on April 13 in a 7-3 loss to Kansas City.
He made two starts before the injury posting no decisions.
Wigfall has pitched 8.1 innings, during which he struck out eight and had a 0.72 WHIP.
