The St. Louis River Walkers have placed catcher Alex Boychuk on the 14-day injured list after he suffered a strained oblique in a 9-4 win at Rockford on May 23.
St. Louis signed the 37-year-old Boychuk in the off-season in the hopes he could be the team’s starting catcher.
But Boychuk has struggled at the plate hitting just .163 with four homers and 14 RBIs in 23 games
Boychuk is expected to miss up to three weeks.
Getting the callup from AAA Memphis is 36-year-old Mike Vaughn.
Vaughn has played in 11 games/10 starts for the Redbirds this season, hitting .379 with two RBIs.
