This cabinet photo has been floating around the internet for years unidentified. I took the time last week to try and figure out who this player wearing a Cleveland Spiders uniform might be. It looked to be the road jersey for the 1892-1893 Spiders and looking through rosters of Cleveland I noticed they were carrying a young pitcher from Buffalo named William Schellerman. He was expected to make the team and participated in Spring Training throughout their Southern League exhibition games. He was released prior to April 15th, 1893 when John Clarkson returned to the team. But he was there long enough to get his picture taken. I attach that, along with his obituary photo from 1909.
