Walkers news: June 28 -- Shaw and Boychuk called up from AAA; Sotolongo and Wenman head to Memphis
The St. Louis River Walkers have recalled first baseman Nick Shaw and catcher Alex Boychuk from AAA Memphis and sent first baseman Wifredo Sotolongo and catcher Zach Wenman.
Shaw, 30, had been sent to AAA on June 24 because of his struggles at the plate.
The veteran first baseman has hit .235 with 10 homers and 32 RBIs in 67 games this season for the Walkers.
In his four games at Memphis, Shaw hit .500 with three RBIs.
Signed in the offseason to be their catcher, Boychuk has been out since May 23 with a strained oblique.
The 37-year-old has played in 23 games for St. Louis, hitting .163 with four homers and 14 RBIs.
In a four-game rehab at AAA, Boychuk hit .368 with two RBIs.
Wenman has been the Walkers primary backup catcher since the 2035 season.
This season, Wenman has played in 43 games/39 starts while hitting .265 with 15 RBIs.
The decision to send Wenman down was because of his struggles defensively, along with the solid play of Mike Vaughan who was called up when Boychuk was injured.
Also an off-season free-agent signing, Sotolongo was called up during Shaw's brief time in Memphis.
The 28-year-old played in five games/four starts and hit just .067.
