Hideaki Taguchi connected on a two-out double in the bottom of the ninth inning to score Joseph Hughes and give Springfield a 3-2 win over St. Louis at Oracle Park (2020).
Hughes reached base on a one-out single off River Walkers reliever Frank Jimenez.
Jimenez struck out Vincent Villaviencio for the second out.
But Taguchi drove a 1-1 pitch into the gap in left center to score Hughes and give the Railers the win.
Springfield had tied the game in the bottom of the eighth, when Brendan York led off with a double off St. Louis reliever Kyle Smarr and scored on a Muneo Yamamoto single.
Springfield starter Ruben Ruiz went five scoreless innings allowing just one hit. He struck out seven and walked two.
Alan Albanese worked a scoreless sixth for Springfield, but Carlos Sanchez gave up a two-run homer in the seventh to Joe Allen to tie it at 2-2.
Jon Santiago worked a scoreless eighth and extended that through the first two outs in the ninth.
Jesse McNaboe, a former Walkers ace, got just one out but it was enough to net him the win.
