June 22-24, 2046: vs NY Yankees (3)
Game 1: The Rays dropped a seesaw affair to the Yankees in their series opener at Publix Park 8-5 in 11 innings. Tampa Bay went up 3-0 on a 2-run Dan Gregory single, fell behind 5-3, tied it at 5 in the 8th on a 2-run Alex Duran pinch-double and then lost it in the 11th when Sean Forbes (1-2) saw his 2046 struggles continue when he allowed a 3-run homer. Marc Gibson struggled at 4.2 7 4 4 2 7 with only the unusually high # of whiffs a bright spot.
Game 2: Tampa Bay rode a 7-run 4th to a 13-4 blowout of the Yankees. Luis Barela drove in 4 with a bases-clearing double and an RBI triple while Nelson Bocardo also plated 4 with his 3 hits including a 2-run double to pace the offense. Meanwhile on the mound Gordie Ager was brilliant yet again, improving to 8-2, 2.87 after going 7 4 1 1 0 7. In the 9th Sean Forbes was given another shot to try and get some confidence with the score 13-1 and instead gave up another 3-run homer.
Game 3: The Rays coasted again in the finale, winning 9-5 with 3 of the Yankee runs coming in the 9th when Tristan Goulet did his Sean Forbes imitation and gave up a 3-run homer himself. Before that though Mario Saro had a huge game, going 3-4 with a double, 3 runs scored and 2 RBI as well as stolen base #32 while Jose Castillo hit a mammoth 479-foot 2-run homer (#13) in the 6th. Jim Brophy (7-5) kept doing his thing with another impressive start, going 6.2 7 2 2 0 6.
Team record: 54-23. Next up: Washington comes back to town for the first time since Game 7 of last year's World Series for a pair of games.
