Mets home opener went a lot better than their first game on the road. Mets starting pitcher Matt Barrett was fantastic going eight strong innings and giving up three runs to go along with seven strikeouts to keep a dangerous Rockies lineup in check for most of the game. Francisco Gonzalez finished the game off in a non-save situation.
The offense showed up big for the Mets to give the fans something to cheer about. Rockies starter Manny Chavez struggled through four innings giving up six earned runs and two home runs to go along with eight hits and two walks. Manny Navarro also pitched four innings giving up two runs on two solo homers to end the day.
Galaraga, Walker, Burks, Bichette and Castilla combined went 1 for 13. Meanwhile the Mets bats went off with four home runs, which included back to back to back shots in the fifth by Kent, Segui and Brogna. Brogna hit another solo home run in the seventh inning. Jose Vizacaino had a two hit game, as well. Todd Hundley is off to a slow start not managing a hit and striking out twice.
