The explosive bats that the New York Mets had last game didn’t extend into their second game against the Cubs they fail 4-1. Cubs starter Kevin Foster pitched seven strong innings giving up only four hits and striking out four for his first win of the year. Rookie Mets pitcher Jason Isringhausen pitched six innings giving up four earned and striking out three in his first major league outing and picking up the loss.
Brett Butler hasn’t been hitting well finishing the game with an 0.83 average, but he did get another walk making that five walks over his past two games. Rico Brogna collected another two hits including a double. Todd Hundley got in the hit column with two hits and picked up an RBI in the 9th with a double down the left field line.
Brian McRae and Eric Davis went a combined 4 for 9 with three runs and two RBIs between the two to set the tone for the Cubs lineup. Sammy Sosa went 0 for 4 with two strikeouts. Rick Wilkins hit a solo homerun in the fourth inning and Mark Grace singled in a run, as well.
The Cubs victory ended their four game losing streak. All things considered, it wasn’t a bad outing for Isringhausen. Going six innings saved the bullpen from having to work even more coming off an extra inning loss to the Rockies previous game.
