August 7-9, 2046: vs Baltimore (3)
Game 1: Mario Saro missed the cycle by a single as he led the Rays to a 6-3 win over Baltimore in the opener of their 3-game set at Publix Park. Saro nearly pulled the reverse cycle by homering in the 1st (#24) off former Ray Tim Gates, tripling in the 3rd and hitting a 2-run double in the 6th. Seth Williams also contributed, going 3-5 with a double and 2 RBI. Ben Moses (8-6) was solid, going 5 5 1 1 3 5 on 103 pitches and Dave Rose hurled 3 scoreless innings.
Game 2: The Rays jumped out to a 10-0 lead after 3 innings and it looked like a cakewalk at the ballpark but Baltimore fought back and Tampa Bay had to hold onto an 11-8 win. Grand slams from Jose Castillo (his second HR of the day and #20) and Mario Saro (#25) earned them the big lead but Caleb Ramos, after no-hitting Baltimore through the first 3, ran into trouble in the 4th allowing 5 runs. He got through the inning and had a clean 5th, then put 2 more on in the 6th which went on to score, giving him his 3rd win despite an ugly 5 6 7 7 3 3 line. With the score 11-7 Sean Forbes got a crack at the 9th but as usual couldn't handle it, giving up a run and putting 2 on with only one out, so Willie Minier had to finish up for save #25.
Game 3: Baltimore put an end to the Rays' mini 5-game win streak with a 4-2 win in the series finale. Gordie Ager (13-4) pitched well at 5 6 2 2 1 8 but took the loss. Alex Duran provided the lone offensive highlights with a double on which he scored and a solo homer (#11) in the 9th.
Team record: 81-34. Next up: 3 games in Toronto. The Jays are currently in the 2nd wild card spot looking to hold off Oakland.
