August 24-26, 2046: vs Boston (3)
August 24: Activated P Marc Gibson from the 10-day IL, optioned P BJ Turner to AAA Durham.
Game 1: The Rays came from behind with two runs in the 9th to take a 3-2 win over Boston in their series opener at Publix Park. Marc Gibson was impressive in his return from the IL, going 7 5 1 1 3 3 but Satoshi Sato allowed a run in the 8th to put the Rays behind 2-1. It looked like they wouldn't come through in the 9th after Dan Gregory was caught stealing after singling to lead off the inning and Yuji Morioka struck out, but four straight singles brought home the tying and winning runs with Mario Saro and Seth Williams delivering those hits. That made a winner of Dave Rose (2-0), who pitched a perfect 9th.
Game 2: Dan Gregory's 7th-inning grand slam (#10) broke open a 3-2 game as the Rays went on to rout the Red Sox 8-2. Nelson Bocardo drove in a pair of runs to give them the early lead, and Gordie Ager (15-4) was in fine form once again at 6 6 2 2 1 6.
Game 3: The Rays completed the sweep with a 4-3 win over Boston. Jose Castillo's solo homer (#24) broke a 3-3 tie in the 7th and Dave Rose (3-0) picked up the win once again. Willie Minier got into some trouble in the 9th allowing a couple of hits but struck out three Red Sox for save #26. Greg Bookhart started and went 6.2 9 3 3 2 6.
Team record: 93-38. Next up: An off-day then we travel to Atlanta for 2 games.
