Back for a moment in between more work for the weekend. Does anyone feel like writing 35 pages over a weekend? I wouldn't usually, but I don't have much of a choice due to other duties during the week making me seem like a procrastinator. This weekend will suck! Who ever said taking two doctoral classes during the summer was a good idea?

Team Power Rankings
Weekly Team Power Rankings: Here are the current team power rankings for Commonwealth Baseball Organization:
Analysis
With 45 games played, we are less than two weeks from hitting the 2302 midway point for the CBO season. This week had some big winners and losers and a little shakeup in the Top 5.
#1 Fort Hagen - With a 4-1 week, the Silver Shroud have now emerged as the CBO's top team. The Shroud slew Finch Farm (#17) in two and then beat Concord (#12) 2 out of 3 times for the week. Fort Hagen now holds a six-game lead in the Institute League over Sunshine Tidings (#7) and a three-game lead over the struggling Party Boys (#4).
#2 Atom - The best team in the South Charles Association, the Cats had a 3-2 week against two hot teams. Atom split at Vault 81 (#8) and then won the last two games of a three-game series against Jamaica Plain (#3). If there was any playoff preview, this week showed that the Cats are top contenders to repeat as the SCA's champions.
#3 Jamaica Plain - Coming into the week, the Red Rockets were the hottest team in baseball, but they cooled off a little this week. They entered the week on a nine-game winning streak and extended it to 10 before FHE (#11) split the series with them. Jamaica Plain then lost the weekend series to Atom as mentioned above, putting them two back of the Cats in the Minutemen League and atop the SCA standings.
#4 Nordhagen Beach - The Party Boys dropped from the top after having a rough week salvaged only with a Sunday win. The Boys dropped both games versus the Chemists, and then they lost the first two games against Easy Town (#20), all at home. With the 1-4 week, Nordhagen Beach is now three games back of the Shroud for the North Charles Association's top record. The Boys lead the Brotherhood League by six games over County Crossing (#15), though, still putting them in a good place for the second-half playoff race.
#5 Diamond City - Atop the Railroad League in the tightest league in the CBO, the Swatters went 3-2 to maintain a one-game lead over a banged up Roxbury (#6) team. Diamond City split at home with University Point (#14) and then won two of three over the Dwellers. Similar to Atom, the Swatters had a 3-2 week in two important series, showing good signs for them should they make the playoffs.
Feature Story: Is the Class of 2296 Too Strong?
Some of them are only in their early-20s, but the cast of stars from the 2296 inaugural season have not been the stars so far in 2302. Still, when looking at the top-rated players, the 2296 CBO Inaugural Draft produced heavy talent from the original pool.
Looking at the OSA rankings of players, only a few 1st-rounders from the 2296 Inaugural Draft are considered Top 20 as position players or pitchers: RF Tomas Jones (#11 position), SS Austin Engill (#13), 3B Ben Pettinato (#17), SP Sheng Kawolski (#3 pitcher), SP Tony Bertha (#8), and SP Brent Hooker (#19).
The rankings are not bad since there are some other players not drafted in the 1st round who are stellar, including #12 RF Jonathan Angelou (11th-rd pick), #18 RF Joe Rathmann (17th rd), #19 CF Hid Matsumoto (2nd rd), #2 Chris Teddybear (8th rd), #10 SP Chet Arthur (18th rd), #11 Mike Cartrette (11th rd), #12 CL Aaron Still (7th rd), #13 CL Wick Prater (8th rd), #15 Phlip Wallace (2nd rd), #16 CL Doug Dee El (12th rd), and #20 SP Pete Pembroke (4th rd).
In all, that makes up 17 of the 40 top players in the CBO by ratings. That does not mean any will win a Nuka-Hitter Award or Vim! Pitcher Award, but they are players still heavily influencing the current CBO, meaning that few spots are open for new players. That may be the reason why Commissioner Nate Howard decided to reduce the draft pool again for now since there are just too few slots for players to advance in the current CBO. That could mean good things for the NWL and VL, but for now those leagues get a few of the CBO's scraps.
For the record, BNN's picks for the current top hitter and pitcher per association are as follows in a few tight races:
NCA Hitter: RF Jonathan Angelou, Nordhagen Beach, .363 (2nd), 12 HR, 35 RBI (6th), 1.162 OPS (2nd), 3.1 WAR (2nd), 30 XBH (1st)
SCA Hitter: RF Young Goodman, Roxbury, .372 (2nd), 15 HR (t-2nd), 36 RBI (t-6th), 1.160 OPS (2nd), 3.3 WAR (3rd), 64 H (1st), 119 TB (1st), .493 wOBA (1st)
NCA Pitcher: SP Beachboy Nut, Nordhagen Beach, 9-2 (1st in wins), 1.78 ERA (1st), 3.7 WAR (1st), 86.0 IP (1st), 76 K (2nd), 10.9 K/BB (1st), 0.7 BB/9 (1st), 0.86 WHIP (1st), 2.16 FIP (1st), 238 ERA+ (1st), 4.3 rWAR (1st) - Note: this race is not close
SCA Pitcher: SP Chris Teddybear, Jamaica Plain, 7-0 (tied for 1st in wins), 2.13 ERA (1st), 1.9 WAR, 36 K, 0.89 WHIP (1st), 199 ERA+ (1st), .187 OPP AVG (1st)
