ARTIE DEDE -1916
One-game player Artie Dede is among five members of the NL champion Brooklyn Robins with close-up photos in the current RMY Auction. He played behind the plate and had one at-bat on October 4th, 1916, the penultimate game of the season, when he was 21. Dede was the third catcher to appear in that particular game. He was never in another major league game and appears not to have played in the minor leagues. Edited to add: He was a Brooklyn semi-professional player who was signed by the Robins in May as an emergency catcher and a warmup catcher. He remained on the roster for the rest of the season, but did not appear in a game until October. When the Brooklyn starting catcher injured a finger in the sixth inning on October 4th, the #2 catcher caught the rest of the inning, and then Dede caught the final three innings. He had two passed balls in those innings. Dede returned to semi-pro ball in 1917.
