Walkers news: June 2 -- Columbus 11, St. Louis 3
Record: 24-34, 5th/(Tied/w. Louisville and Quad City), 11.5 GB Cedar Rapids
Columbus pasted St. Louis starting pitcher Brent Autin for 10 runs over the first three innings and the Golden Bears breezed to an 11-3 win at Forbes Field (1958).
Coming off a NL Pitcher of the Month Award for May, Autin didn't bring anything to the tables against Columbus.
The Bears scored four runs in the first courtesy of a grand slam from Justin Scott.
They tallied twice in the second. Neil Assenbjerg drove in the first run with a single. Matt Crawl plated the other with a double.
St. Louis was just hoping Autin could get through the third to take some heat off the bullpen.
He did, but it was ugly.
Assenjberg delivering the big blow with a two-run shot to make it 10-0.
St. Louis did score three meaningless runs in the seventh to make the 11-3 final.
Bears starting pitcher Keegan Jensen (5-1) turned in an impressive 5.2 shutout innings. He allowed just two hits while striking out nine and walking one.
Alejandro Urquidez finished the sixth, worked the seventh, allowing all three Walkers runs, and got the first out of the eighth.
Scott Charlesworth recorded the final five outs of the game.
