Athletics Climb The Mountain
Philadelphia Celebrates Dick McBrides Super Club
It was a season that the city of Philadelphia will never forget and one that grandparents will be telling to their little ones. The Philadelphia Baseball club completed an excellent season by winning the World Series over the Brooklyn Atlantics in six games.
The Athletics had carried the fortunes of all of their faithful during the year and finally overcame their rivals from Washington for the pennnant. Manager Dick McBride was not going to have them stop there, but had them play good baseball in the final series. Philly scored double digits in every game that they won taking two out of three at home and ending it in Brooklyn at the Capatoline Grounds.
Joe McDermott was the Most Valuable Player driving in 13 runs and hitting an even .500. Tom York and Jim Tipper also drove in over 10 runs in the series while McBride pitched in three of the victories and McDermott going 15 innings in support and also winning a decision. The Atlantics used their ace for almost the entire series and poor Cherokee Fisher was battered to the tune of a 8.50 ERA in 36 innings of work.
The spotlight of the baseball world will stay on Philadelphia as the city's heroes culminated another excellent season in the professional national game.
