Week of 4/22/62....What is Happening?? (1962)
The Mets just rattled off a 4-2 week, putting them at 9-5 overall and in 2nd place....just 2.5 games behind the Giants (who are on a 9 game winning streak!).
Two of the Mets win were in extra innings and they put together all 4 wins in a row....two over the Reds and one each over Pittsburgh and Philly.
The best pitched game went to Roger Craig, who improved to 3-0 with a complete game 2-1 win over Jim O'Toole and the Reds. Craig showed Ks don't matter that much as O'Toole struck out 12 in his 9 innings, while Craig didn't punch out anyone!
The most exciting game of the week was likely the next day, again against the Reds. The Mets pulled out a 10-6 win in 11 innings, as they put up 4 runs in the top of the 11th. Frank Thomas came out to play in this one, as he hit his first HR of the season and drove in 6, including a 3-run HR in that 11th inning off of Johnny Klippstein.
I wasn't around yet in 1962....but I've heard that this team wasn't that good that year....right?? (yes this is sarcasm!)
