September 24-25, 2047: vs NY Yankees (2)

The opener got rained out so we played a doubleheader on Wednesday.

September 24: Activated IF Tomas Laboy from the 10-day IL, optioned IF Ed Herrera to AAA Durham.

The first of our injured players (and the only one due back before the regular season ends) is back as Laboy had been out a month. Mario Saro and Yuji Morioka should be back by Game 2 of the ALDS, with Luis Barela a week behind and hopefully ready for the ALCS should we get there. Kevin Crater unfortunately is done for the year.

Game 1: The Rays routed the Yankees in the opener 11-1 as Jose Castillo had a big game. The lefty-swinging DH homered twice to reach the 30-dinger mark with 31 and drove in 3, Seth Williams hit a milestone with HR #20, a 3-run shot, and Alex Duran added a 2-run blast (#18). This was all in support of Gordie Ager, who closed his checkered regular season on a high note going 6 6 0 0 1 3 to finish 17-7, 4.99 (yes he just got his ERA below 5 at the last moment). Chris O'Brien went the final 3 innings for his 3rd save.

Game 2: The Rays completed the doubleheader (and series) sweep with a 6-4 win in the nightcap. Reserves filled the lineup and couple of them came up big with Corey Herring's 7th-inning double putting the Rays ahead to stay and Steve Emerson going 3-4 with two runs scored and an RBI while Juan Davila was 3-5, knocking in a pair. Josh MacDonald got the start and went 5 5 2 2 5 5 while Caleb Ramos (10-3) picked up the win with two scoreless innings of relief.

Team record: 112-46. Next up: A makeup game at home vs Baltimore.
