September 26, 2047: vs Baltimore (1)
We tried. We really tried. But in the end Greg Bookhart couldn't get his 20th win although it wasn't his fault at all as the offense came a cropper in a 1-0 loss to Baltimore at Publix Park. Bookhart hung in there the whole way, pitching his first complete game of the year as we gave him every chance and it was a 0-0 game until the 9th when he gave up a solo homer. They had 2 on and 2 out in the bottom of the 9th and it looked like they might pull off one of their patented comebacks, but Dave Frick lined out to right. Bookhart finished 9 5 1 1 2 8 on 112 pitches in his gem and concludes his regular season 19-5, 3.91 with 3.7 WAR as at least he got his ERA under 4.
Team record: 112-47. Next up: We conclude the regular season with 3 games in Toronto.
Playoff race update: Going into the final weekend in the AL the Rays and White Sox have clinched their divisions and Houston leads the Angels by 2 and Texas by 3 in the West. Baltimore has clinched the first wild card and Austin leads LA by 1 1/2 and Texas by 2 1/2 as the Dukes have 4 games in 3 days with Cleveland. Over in the NL the Cardinals and Giants have their divisions wrapped up and Arizona and Milwaukee have sewn up the wild cards but the East is wide open with Columbus and Atlanta tied up and Washington with the slimmest of chances 2 games back.
