Hillard scored the Muskies third-inning run when he drew a lead-off walk from Almon.
A one-out single by Trent Rowan moved Hillard to third.
Adam Macklin drove him in with a deep fly ball to left.
St. Louis tallied twice off Madison starting pitcher Bryce Jaksic in the fourth.
Mark Herman drove in the first run with a bases-load fly ball to left.
An RBI single by Nick Shaw followed to make it 3-2.
The Muskies got those two runs back in the eighth on a two-out double by Matthew Pankhurst off Kyle Smarr.
