June 1-3, 2048: at Cincinnati (3)
June 1: Placed SS Dave Frick on the 10-day IL with wrist soreness; recalled SS Josh Sprouse from AA Montgomery.
Frick should only miss the minimum 10 days.
Game 1: The Rays scored 6 times in the first two innings and rolled to an 11-5 win at Great American Ballpark over the Reds. Luis Barela had another huge game, going 3-4 with 4 RBI including a 3-run homer (#16) in the first while Nelson Bocardo was 3-5 with an RBI double. Mario Saro (#12) and Alex Duran (#5) also homered. Melvin Delgado (4-0) was solid at 6 5 3 3 0 6 for the win.
Game 2: Tampa Bay once again overpowered Cincinnati in a 9-5 win, again scoring early and often (5 runs in the first 2 innings). Mario Saro was the man of the match, hitting a 3-run homer (#13) among his three hits on the day and stole a base for good measure while Jose Castillo and Juan Davila were each 3-5 with 2 RBI. They backed a fine outing from Dave Rose (6-0) who was 7 3 2 2 3 5. The only down note was that Yuji Morioka suffered a strained shoulder and will be out 5-6 weeks.
Game 3: Rained out and will be made up June 11 when both teams had scheduled off days.
Team record: 43-12. Next up: Back home for 4 games against the Yankees and tomorrow is the Amateur Draft.
