August 12-14, 2030: vs Oakland (3)

The Rays' losing streak hit 4 after they dropped the opener but they came back to win the next two, one in extremely dramatic fashion. With the Yankees dropping 2 of 3 the lead is back up to 8 so we won't worry about it again for now.

JT Realmuto hit a two-out pinch-RBI double in the bottom of the 9th to tie the game up at 2 but Oakland scored in the 10th off Kevin DiCostanzo to take a 3-2 win at Tropicana Field in the opener. Johnny Kuykendall scattered a lot of hits but kept Oakland relatively at bay, going 5 10 2 2 1 8. The bullpen held from there until the A's broke through against DiCostanzo, who is not having as good a second half as he did in the first and dropped to 5-3.

The Rays snapped their 4-game losing streak in emphatic fashion with a 6-1 win over Oakland behind James Hays. The righty was his usual ace-like self going 7 4 1 1 2 6 and improving to 13-3 and he got immediate support when Kelly Crumpton hit a 2-run double in the first before they added 4 more in the 2nd highlighted by Andrew Greckel's 2-run homer (#21).

It truly looked like the Rays would drop 2 of 3 in this series as they trailed 3-0 going into the bottom of the 9th, but they loaded the bases with two out and Cristian Hernandez unloaded his biggest hit as a Ray, a walk-off grand slam to win it. It was only his 2nd homer since joining the club and his 21st overall. Joe Marlette turned in a fine start (5 4 1 1 1 6) and Mike Moore recorded his first-ever MLB win despite giving up a run in the top of the 9th.

Team record: 78-42. Next up: 4 games vs the Yankees, which we probably don't want to lose all of.
