I agree in principle but, as I am sure you know, it is a business and customers (especially new ones) don't want to hear the developers only refined everything from last year. We always see the "should I buy the new version or stick with the current one" posts and NHL license fees alone mean they have to increase the customer base each year.
And this is coming from someone who really wants a fix to the waiver workaround, goalie fatigue/rotation, and a few other things more than new features that don't affect how I play the game.
