For thirty teams, having sixteen teams in it is far too many playoff teams for a particular postseason, I believe. Remember the principle that you want is to make just as certain as you possibly can that the postseason has only the very best teams in it when it is then conducted. Meaning no more than a quarter or so of the teams in the overall setup, by that logic, then, it seems to me. In this case, four to eight playoff teams at most for your entire MLB setup per season, with 28-32 or so teams in it.
If and when you go to 36 teams in it, you should have two nine-team divisions per league, not three six-team divisions, because I don't really like the idea of wildcard teams in the playoffs or odd numbers of divisions per subleague, actually. When you go to forty teams, I'd suggest four divisions of five teams each per subleague, in turn. If you go above forty total teams in MLB, it might get rather tricky to do things, unless you find a way to keep each division equally-sized as you expand your MLB setup. Just so you know. CD out.
