I made this for my Random Debut leagues, which bring everyone in through the amateur draft. I haven't tried it with a normal historical, but it certainly works in Random Debut. My guess is that it would be a good idea to have the Amateur Draft enabled, so that all the guys could come in that way. I suspect that even without the Amateur Draft, they'd show up as free agents. The only thing I'd advise against, is using them in a league that assigns them to their RL teams. That might not work so well, because the Fed League structure has gone the way of the Do-Do. I think that was the right decision, because three major league sub-leagues would get kind of messy. I just didn't want to see these guys being relegated to being crappy fenceposts, who come in, and retire, without having had a chance to do anything. It might work with minor leagues. I've never used those though, so I can't really advise you on what to do with that structure.
All of them are in the Master, so they will definitely show up when they're supposed to. It'll also complete the career stats of guys like Mordecai Brown, Jack Quinn, Joe Tinker, Edd Roush, and others, that made a stop over in the league, at the beginning, middle, or end of their careers. It's just that if only the OF have defensive stats, and nobody has any others, they're kind of one dimensional players. I wanted them to be three dimensional guys again, so I made this. I say again, because at one point, all the stats for these guys were in the main DB, but were taken out. The reason I was given, was the low competitive level vis a vis other historical leagues. That's fine, but the Union Association, and Players League stats are still in there, and from where I sit, those two leagues had a lesser competitive level than the Fed League. There's no player that had a season that can compare with Fred Dunlap's 1884 annihilation of the Union Association, and those stats are in the game, so why do these guys get the cold shoulder? Cold shoulder no mo', I say!
Not sure if it'll be possible to use this beyond OOTP23. I'll have a better sense of it, when I get a look at the re-done main DB that's coming out with OOTP24, so for now, that's a wait and see thing. Four months 'til that comes around though, so why not get this out while we're waiting? I showed RL stats pages for Allen, and Doolan above. Here are their Profile pages, and Allen's Pitching Stats page. Doolan's just starting out, so all of his career stats are on his Profile page.
