Walter Lynch - Red Sox?
I've been looking for an image of Lynch, whose ML career consisted of 3 games with the Sox in July of 1922.
Found this in the July 8, 1922 edition of the Boston Globe - I will say that it certainly COULD be him in a Sox uniform - the quality and orientation of the image is such that pinstripes could be obscured and the color of the bill of the cap would be invisible.
Having said that, what is the likelihood of it being a Sox uni? I don't know what day he was signed on, but he debuted on the 8th, the day this appeared.
Also, this page of the paper contained a column where readers could write in for interpretation of rules. One question and answer went like this:
Q: The batter hit the ball out of the lot, and while he was running between third and home, a player of his own side took a bat and held it over the baseline and the batter jumped over it. Did that put him out?
A: No, however it is just as well to omit jinks of that kind.
True then, true 100 years later.
