Let's not forget, the Mets hired Ruben Amaro Jr. as their first-base coach for 2018. I'm guessing that "Ruin Tomorrow Sooner", as he was known in Philadelphia for just this sort of thing, left his GM "Manual" behind?
(I grant you that this hypothesis requires that subsequent Mets GMs such as Brodie von Hunchback, Zack DWI Scott and Billy Eppler be able to read. But at least there's a chance.)
