Games 48 - 50: Boston Americans vs. Chicago White Sox
A quick trip over to the Windy City saw the Boston Americans get a much-needed sweep of the hometown Chicago White Sox. The wins moved Boston into a tie for third place in the American League; 3 games behind the Tigers.
Game 48: Boston (27-21) struck first, putting up 2 runs in the top of the 1st inning giving Jesse Tannehill (8-4) the support he needed as the Americans prevailed over the White Sox (23-25) by a score of 3 to 1. In going the distance, Tannehill scattered 6 hits and issued 1 walk to finish with a Game Score of 74. While he was tagged with the loss, Jim Sullivan (6-4) pitched well, allowing 3 runs (1 earned) on 8 hits and walked 1; Game Score of 64. Out of the combined 14 hits on the day, there was just 1 extra-base hit; a Triple by Chicago second baseman Jack Crooks. The only multi-hit performance was by White Sox catcher Mike Grady (2 for 3).

Game 49: While Boston again jumped out to a quick lead, this was a game that that the White Sox (23-26) lost rather than the Americans (28-21) won; as the hometown team was done in by 4 errors on the day. Fred Klobedanz (8-4) was the winning pitcher. allowing 3 runs (all earned) while giving up 9 hits and 3 walks to finish with a Game Score of 57, while Bill Carrick was the hard luck loser despite not allowing any earned runs; Game Score of 65. Rightfielder Sport McAllister went 3 for 4 (Triple, 2 RBI) and shortstop Kid Elberfeld (2 for 5, Double, 1 Run) led the Boston hit-attack, while John Anderson (3 for 4, 1 Run) and Mike Grady (2 for 4, 1 Run) provided offense for Chicago.

Game 50: After an extended stretch of rather anemic offense, something clicked for Boston (29-21) hitters today as they pounded out 12 runs on 14 hits and 5 walks to top the White Sox (23-27) by a score of 12 to 4. Boston veteran pitcher Cy Young (5-6) picked up the win (4 earned runs on 9 hits; Game Score of 57), while Willie Sudhoff (5-7) only lasted 2 2/3 innings to get tagged for the loss (8 runs (4 earned) on 7 hits; Game Score of 17). Amos Rusie and Al Maul provided relief help for the White Sox. Boston had 4 batters who smacked out multiple hits on the day: Win Mercer (2 for 6, 2 Runs, 3 RBIs), Bill Lange (2 for 4, Home Run, 1 Run, 2 RBIs, 1 Walk), Dave Brain (4 for 5, Double, 2 Runs, 2 RBIs), and Ossee Schreckengost (3 for 5, Triple, 3 Runs, 3 RBIs). Mike Grady (3 for 4, Double, 2 Runs, 1 RBI) was one of the few bright spots for the White Sox.
