The 2026 Amateur Draft

Khattak:

A college righty - but from a Canadian college (Ryerson in Toronto) - Khattak is a nasty sidearmer with groundball tendencies who's very tough to square up. Perhaps by the time he's ready we'll have improved the infield defense.

Covarrubius:

Aside from sharing a last name with a disliked X-Files character, Covarrubius is a high-schooler from Louisiana with a bat we can really dream on. His pick was a supplemental one courtesy of losing Kyle Tucker to free agency.

Napier:

Wright State's Napier is another OF with a big bat but one who's closer to the bigs, and with the way our OF is hitting this year we could use him sooner rather than later. He also looks like an above-average corner OF who can play CF in a pinch.

Gutierrez
:

A bit of an older high-schooler (19), Bob looks like a potential mid-to-back end starter with a potentially nasty slider. A lottery ticket to be sure.

Marsh:

A pick I like as Marsh is a college bat who can play all across the infield as well as an outstanding baserunner and could end up a Ben Zobrist-type.

Chambers:

Speaking of lottery tickets, Chambers certainly is one but could hit really big if he lives up to that potential 70 stuff and manages to get the control into the 40s.
