Games 54 - 56: Washington Senators vs. Boston Americans

Still far too many errors committed during the 3-Game series, but Boston was able to come away with the surprising sweep over the Senators. From a league-wide perspective, I noticed the AI moved a few more players onto the trading block, so I am evaluating whether to shake things up. The wins moved the Americans into a 2nd-Place tie in the American League race; 4 games behind the Detroit Tigers.

Game 54: An outstanding pitching performance by Boston Americans (31-23) starter Cy Young (6-6), as he limited the Washington Senators (33-21) to 1 run (unearned) on just 2 hits and 2 walks. In picking up the 5 to 1 win, Young struck on 5 and finished with a season-best Game Score of 84. Taking the loss was Casey Patten (8-3) in which he allowed 5 runs (1 earned) on 6 hits and 1 walk to finish with a Game Score of 60. John Farrell (2 for 3, 1 Run, 1 RBI), Win Mercer (1 for 3, 1 Run, 1 RBI), and Kid Elberfeld (1 for 4, Double, 2 Runs) provided the run support needed for Boston to prevail.

Player of the Game: Cy Young (Season: #5 / Career: #5)

Game 55: Thanks to the timely hitting of Jesse Hoffmeister (3 for 4, Triple, 1 Run, 3 RBIs) and Pat Crisham (3 for 3, 2 Runs), Boston (32-23) was able to top the Senators (33-22) by a score of 5 to 3. Noodles Hahn (9-6) picked up the win, allowing 3 runs (0 earned) while scattering 6 hits and allowing 1 walk on his way to a Game Score of 73. Jack Chesbro (7-6) was tagged with the loss, giving up 5 runs (all earned) on 10 hits while striking out 6; Game Score of 48. In the loss, Washington 3rd baseman Doc Casey had a nice day at the plate, going 2 for 4 (Triple, 1 Run, 2 RBIs).

Player of the Game: Noodles Hahn (Season: #9 / Career: #9)

Game 56: The final game of the series saw Boston (33-23) ace Jesse Tannehill (9-5) limit the Senators (33-23) to just 1 run as the Americans cruised to a 7 to 1 victory. Tannehill did not allow any earned runs, walked 1, and struckout 4 to finish with a Game Score of 74. Washington pitcher Cy Seymour (3-2) was not at his best, as he allowed 7 runs (all earned) on 7 hits and 6 hits for a Game Score of 34. John Farrell (2 for 3, Double, 5 RBIs, 1 Walk) and Bill Lange (3 for 5, Triple, 2 Runs, 1 RBI) had an outstanding day at the plate.

Player of the Game: Jesse Tannehill (Season: #10 / Career: #10)
