Anatomy Volume 1, 1985: Game 31 of 162

May 14, 1985: Seattle Mariners (16-15) @ Boston Red Sox (16-14)

The M’s come to Boston for two games with Mike Moore going for them today against Oil Can Boyd. A cool night with the wind favouring hitters in the direction of the Monster, so we might see some go out into Lansdowne Street tonight.

Some heartening news for us with Bruce Kison back among the fold after his IL spell. Hopefully he can stay healthy for the remainder as he is definitely a part of our best group.

Game Recap

Another early run for us courtesy of Jim Rice, this time with an RBI single after Boggs and Dewey Evans have also got on base with a hit. We might well have left a few on the deck when Mike Easler GIDPs to end the frame and kill the rally.

They hit straight back in the next with a 2-run single by Phil Bradley giving them the advantage, but then we really get to Moore in the home half and go back ahead with a 3-spot on 5 singles, including one by yours truly to get things up and running. I get another hit in the 4th and, after swiping second, eventually score on a hit by Barrett.

Things go quiet until the 8th, when they inch closer with a run as Donnie Scott doubles and comes in on a Jack Perconte single, making it 5-3. Bob Stanley gives up another run in the 9th but we get there by that margin. Not pretty, but we’ll take it. I have a nice night, going 4-for-4 with two runs scored and a double - the only one of our 15 hits to go for extra bases. Oh, and not one ball left the park - what do I know from weather?
