Collegiate Pyramid – 1901 Season

First, that we are seeing West Virginia head back down to Division II after promoting just one short year ago is not surprising… that Oklahoma isn’t joining them is. I expect this to sort of work itself out eventually – but – given the way I set up the player creation modifiers each clubs’ first hand of players, as it were, would make it very difficult to them to stay up once promoted. I think it will take a few seasons of free agent movement and undrafted high schoolers finding homes throughout the tiers to sort this out – but, we shall see... On the draft bit, the topflight has one, a 1-round affair, but I have it set to generate 8-rounds worth of talent… hopefully that’ll stock the lower tiers with talent good enough to help them stay afloat should they find themselves promoted somewhere in the tier system. But, dunno, could go sideways on me, no doubt…. I have played around with promo/relegation leagues in OOTP for a while now and still don’t feel I have it dialed in exactly as I’d like (and, I’m not 100% sure that I even know what it is exactly that I like in this type of set-up). Moving along… so, Mississippi State, eh? Crushed it – 9 games in front of Vandy, 18 ahead of Bama and Tennessee, and they finished first in both offense & pitching/defense… like, 1.1 runs/game better than the next club on defense. That’s approaching juggernaut status. They even won 9 out of their last 10 to close the show. We’ll see if they can keep it up – I really don’t want them to become a dominant force.

A couple of things… the closest Econo Lodge to Starkville, MS is 26.2 miles away in Columbus, MS. That’s too far. A search for Dive Bars using the ‘nearby’ function in Google Maps didn’t result in anything worthwhile. I did find a Red Roof Inn charging just $59 a night… 3.4 on Google Reviews… A fella named Kendrick had this to say about it, “Upgraded facilities, but not very clean. I'd stay solo, wouldn't dare take my family or a companion”. Not even suitable for a companion, Kendrick? C’mon. Basically, what I'm trying to say here is that I don't want the top flights trophy to live in Starkville for long - town's not awesome enough. I couldn't even find a beach volleyball complex on campus.

BTW… a lot of clubs lost money this season… including Mississippi State who went into the red for nearly one million dollars.

-Grand Lakes University won the annual Summer School tournament, defeating the Pacific Tech Poppers by a score of 4-3 in the final. Ahh, Pacific Tech… for my money, that’s peak Val Kilmer. And, look, I understand if you lean Tombstone, it’s iconic. But Doc Holiday ain’t no Chris Knight, I can tell you that.
