To expand on this a bit. For the most part a player's abilities are just that and are not something you can alter. Having good coaches can help, particularly with development if the player has potential they have not reached. However, often a poor hitter is just going to be a poor hitter and so you need to factor that into your roster construction and/or decide whether he fits your roster at all.
